EXPERIENCES

Mental health notice

It is important to find a balance between work and life. When work consumes us, we'll stop living for ourselves. While reading about my experiences, you will find a lot of overlapping jobs/tasks. Yes, I have at times worked in that many fields paralelly, while also doing my studies (it is apparent when looking at the time it took to finish my degrees - 4 years instead of 3 for BSc, 3 years instead of 2 for MSc). In november of 2022 I have decided to change the way I live, because my mental health detoriated to the point of utter melancholy and burnout, and if continued, it might have ended poorly. I have terminated every contract or volunteership I did not find joy in anymore, to focus on my studies and on things that make me happier. This was an important lesson that I learned the hard way.

If it is your job to read my resume: Do it in your work time. If you are reading this at home at 8pm, stop right now. Go, watch a movie. No job is worth dying for. I'll be here tomorrow at 9am too.

If it is not your job to read my resume: Are you having fun doing it? If yes, I'm happy for you. But if you were asked a favour of someone, please, stop reading right now. I don't want to be a burden to anyone, like my tasks became a burden to me.

Computer science

Why is this picture so big? Because I am proud of my degrees!

Computer science MSc

2020 september - 2023 july
ELTE Eötvös Loránd University, Faculty of Informatics

Knapsack problem, Strassen matrix multiplication, modern databases, network algorithms, autonomous agents, enterprise architectures. If these words mean something to you, this section is for you!

Or are you more of a research than a develop type? Look no further, you have found what you need!

Computer science BSc

2016 september - 2020 july
ELTE Eötvös Loránd University, Faculty of Informatics

It is not enough to know how to code. A computer scientist has to specialize in problem solving. While one has to master out of the box thinking, it is equally important to have a strong understanding of the basics. Thor will invent a new tool, if it is appropriate, but use what's well-tried, when it suits the problem.

Project Management

Project Manager and Lead Developer

2023 september - currently
Procter & Gamble, Budapest Plant

Working at an FMCG company transforms your world in a matter of weeks. I had to upgrade my tempo and get used to how efficiently you have to work if you want yourself and your team to deliver. You also have to keep an open mind, because crossfunctional work is on the plate at all times.

Vice President of the Studens' Union

2019 september - 2022 march
ELTE Eötvös Loránd University, Students' Union of Faculty of Informatics

It is vastly different to work with volunteers than it is with anyone else. They have the motivation, but their priorities shift with their lives. This means it takes a huge effort to keep them focused on projects and get them to deliver, all the while respecting their time and life choices.

Representation

Vice president of Students' Union

2019 september - 2022 march
ELTE Eötvös Loránd University, Students' Union of Faculty of Informatics

Representing thousands of people is a huge task, and requires perseverance, digilency, strategic thinking, and most importantly, a team. Recruiting, training, coordinating and maintaining a team of 40-50 can be challenging, but if done well, it can change everything.

President of the Communications Committee

2018 march - 2019 september
ELTE Eötvös Loránd University, Students' Union of Faculty of Informatics

From the simple flyer of an event, to the great beast of crisis communication, marketing has every right of being the hardest career Thor has ever faced - and starting it at a non-profit representative body was the ironman mode.

Representative

2018 march - 2022 march
ELTE Eötvös Loránd University, Students' Union of Faculty of Informatics

Fighting for the Faculty's interest, integrating international students into the community, telling our experiences every year to high scool students... the range of tasks and problems is endless. But if the TODO list will only get longer, we have to work on keeping it short.

Mentoring

2017 september - 2022 july
ELTE Eötvös Loránd University, Faculty of Informatics

Starting university is scary, and waiting for some mythic creature to pop out of Hammerspace and solve our problems will lead to missed deadlines, underestimated exams, dropout. A good mentor will teach us much more than how to survive university. They will inspire us to stay curious, help our friends, grab the opportunities of being a young adult.

Marketing

Communications officer

2021 november - 2022 november
ELTE Eötvös Loránd University, Erdős Pál Dormitory

Having experience is having a responsibility. If we see that someone needs help, we have to act to the best of our knowledge and abilities. Thor's temproary home, so called dormitory, was in need for a unified, planned communications plan to help information flow, transparency, reach. Behold, it got it.

Marketing official

2021 november - 2022 november
ELTE Eötvös Loránd University, Faculty of Informatics

A Faculty's official communication is made up of several branches. Recruitment towards high schoolers and parents; internal news and informations for students; cooperation with other faculties. These branches must be held together, othervise none of them will work properly.

Marketing advisor

2019 february - 2021 november
ELTE Eötvös Loránd University, Faculty of informatics

When one is working in marketing, networking skills become an important factor for the quality of the work. One has to notice when paralell working can be joined together to make it more efficient. That's why Thor has worked on tirelessly to bring closer the Faculty's and the Students' Union's communication - going as far as to work for the Faculty unofficially (then officially, as seen above).

Yes, this is the same paragraph as at Representation.

Teaching

Teacher

2019 september - currently
ELTE Eötvös Loránd University, Faculty of Informatics

To teach is to learn. With every step on the way of knowledge transfer, test creation, assignmen evaluation a teacher will become more and more confident in one thing: everyone is different, and you can't have the same class twice.

8 semesters of Webprogramming: Teaching 2-3 groups of 25 people to JavaScript and PHP, prepearing exams, assignments, correcting them.

2 semesters of Programming: Theaching 1 group of 20 people to C++, Python, mathematical specification of programs, prepearing exams, assignments, correcting them.

5 semesters of private lessons: Depending on the student's requirements any subject on the Faculty, or in some cases high scooler prepearing for admission.

Trainer

2019 - currently
ELTE Eötvös Loránd University, Faculty of Informatics and Students' Union of Faculty of Informatics

Transferring knowledge is of upmost importance in an environment, where people might rotate quickly. To avoid the problem of always losing what we've learned, and to increase the effectiveness of the Students' Union, together the President at the time Thor has started to move the SUFI towards a project oriented methodology, by introducing planners, canban boards, scopes etc., and through a professional Train the trainer course they have also gainet enough knowledge to train the next generation of officers.

Alongside this, the Faculty recruiting was in a very bad shape, so Thor has built up a course to teach those that want to participate in high schooler recruitment, providing sufficient material, knowledge, and motivation for the new recruiters.

Event organizing

Event Organizing Coordinator

2021 october - currently
ELTE Eötvös Loránd University, Lágymányos Campus

The Univeristy's campus is a busy place. Large scale events happen every month, sometimes every week, and it requires a workforce to prepeare. These people have to be recruited, coordinated and payed, and their work has to be kept track of and evaluated, so that when needed, those with the relevant experience and work style can be called upon.

Freshmen Camp Organizer

2018 january - 2023 january
ELTE Eötvös Loránd University, Faculty of Informatics

The Faculty's Freshmen Camp is a huge LARP with hundreds of participants. It is an outstanging event, that defies university preconceptions on sveral levels. The arriving freshmen are organized in teams of 40 to fight for victory in a creative setting that is different each year. But the preparation of these 8 days at the end of august have to start in december.

2 times Team Senior: Helping the Team Chief to prepeare the Team Theme, making costumes, decorations, then in the camp leading the freshmen into a world of wonder, helping them become friends, make them feel safe and at home.

1 time Team Chief Senior: Prepearing his Team's Seniors to be ready for the camp then being the "mother" of the team for the week.

3 times Senior Coordinator: Selecting Seniors and Chief Seniors, grouping them in teams that will have a good dynamic. Getting the new Seniors trained and ready, coordinating Team decorations and costumes, upholding deadlines. In the camp coordinating the Seniors to always have up to date information of chages, watching out for their mental health.

Recruitment

2018 march - 2023 january
ELTE Eötvös Loránd University

For a high schooler to know which university and faculty to choose, a flyer and a Facebook post will not be enough. Open days, expos, school visits have to be organized to keep in touch with every year's new generation, to give them the answers to every "what" and "why", and to find the pople who will be the future of informatics.

Other

Graphic design

2018 - currently
Various organizations and hobby

We've all heard the phrase "graphic design is my passion". Well, in Thor's case it didn't start as a passion, more like a necessity; but from the need arose a love for well planned designs, chaotic abstract advertising, and a beginning passion for mascot planning (for the Faculty).

Translator

2015 - 2020
EF Education First

Translating from English and German to Hungarian might seem like a job for a neural network. But the jist of it is the natural feeling of the language and the consistency across materials through several years. At last, every year the entire catalog was translated to Hungarian by yours truly.

Volunteer railwayman

2008 - 2012
Budapest Children's Railway

This might seem like a playful hobby for kids to pass the time. Well it does pass time, not as a kindergarden, but rather by putting you in a situation when 120t trains with hundreds of people on them depend on you and the neighbouring station's guy not letting them go towards each other on a single track; when thousands of euros worth of money is going through you on a summer day in the terminal's ticket office (keep in mind, Hungarian prices and paychecks are way lower than in western Europe); or when you have to go out and handle the railway switch, secure it, and then wait for the train to pass before unlocking the safety box - all this when you are just 12 years old. In an environment like this, one learns pretty quickly what teamwork, following regulations and rules, taking responsibility, speaking languages, being good at problem solving means.

Through this Thor has also gained international experience at the Parkeisenbahn Chemnitz in Germany, which might be much smaller in scale than the Budapest Children's Railway, but the people there are just as wonderful, and full of energy.
